UT Science Forum: UT Professor Speaks About Declining Songbird Populations
Posted By khintz On October 11, 2010 (1:15 pm) In Press Releases

KNOXVILLE â?? David Buehler, professor of wildlife science in the Department of
Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries, will speak at this weekâ??s UT Science Forum
lecture on two species of migrant songbirds with declining populations.

His talk â??Tennesseeâ??s Warblers, Jewels of the Forest â?? Why They Are
Vanishingâ?? will begin at noon on Friday, Oct. 15, in Thompson-Boling Arena
Dining Room C-D. The program is free and open to the public; attendees are
welcome to bring their lunches or purchase lunch at the Café at the Arena.

The UT Science Forum is a weekly event where academic, medical and research
professionals share their knowledge and unique insights in their fields.
Different science topics will be discussed with a question-and-answer session
at the end of each 40-minute presentation.

The cerulean warbler and the golden-winged warbler are two species that breed
in North America during summers and winter in Central and South America. â??The
Cumberland Mountains of eastern Tennessee are one of the key range wide centers
of abundance for both of these species,â?? said Buehler.

He will discuss management strategies to stop the declines and support these
songbird populations.

The UT Science Forum is sponsored by the UT Office of Research. Article taken
