Just a few minutes ago (about 5 pm-August 15), I saw my first Tennessee Warbler of the year. "He" was attracted by the sprinkler and bathing with lots of chickadees and titmice. He appeared to be a mature male, judging from the noticeable white spots in the tail and the moderate amount of yellow on the breast. Robinson (Annotated Checklist of the Birds of Tenn.) reports earlier Tenn. Warbler sightings in Tenn.--Aug 2 in Nashville and Aug. 9 near Roan Mt. But the end of August is more usual for the first sightings. Anyway, it's certainly the first true non-local passerine neotropical migrant I've seen this "fall." They're coming! But don't expect too many just yet!
