Howdy again,
I'd like to issue a special invitation to all the active birders in
west Tennessee to begin contributing to eBird. Of Tennessee's
divisions, the West is by far the least well represented in the
project. We currently only have five regular contributors (thank
you!) from the entire vast region. There is very little data coming
in from such frequently-birded areas as Reelfoot, Paris Landing, Pace
Point, Hatchie NWR, and many others. Great expanses of coastal plain
are virtually terra incognita in the database. Some of Tennessee's
best and most active birders cover these areas regularly. I'd ask
all of y'all who live and bird in the west to please consider
dedicating a little extra time to participating in eBird and helping
fill in the picture of Tennessee in the database. It takes only a
few minutes to enter a checklist into eBird via a simple fill-in-the-
blank online form, but it gives your field notes a value to the
birding and scientific community that they will never have simply
sitting in your own personal notebooks and computers.
Thanks to all who have participated in the past and who will in the
future!
Bill Pulliam
