I captured some images of a male Yellow-bellied Sapsucker eating holly berries in my yard this week (January 5) and posted a blog post. The images made me curious about his gullet and how many berries he can stuff in that gullet before they actually move on to his stomach! If anyone knows more information about how this eating/digestion works or has a good resource for these kind of details in different birds species, I would enjoy having the information. Woodpeckers are of special interest. _http://vickiehenderson.blogspot.com/2010/01/berry-dining-sapsucker-style.ht ml_ (http://vickiehenderson.blogspot.com/2010/01/berry-dining-sapsucker-style.html) Vickie Henderson south Knox County Knoxville, TN (mailto:tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxx) =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
