1/26/08, Douglas Lake (elevation: 955 ft.)

Dutch Bottoms, Cocke county
3:30-4:00 PM

We spotted 5 whitish geese on the lakeshore, then, about 100 yards
away, another was foraging among some Canada geese. That individual
appeared
to be smaller, relative to the Canadas, than those in the group of
5. Also, its bill looked smaller, bluish, and semed to lack the
"grin patch" of a
snow goose. I tried to drive closer for a better look and a few
photographs, but the closest Canada spooked, took flight, and, of
course, the mass of
geese did likewise. We're pretty sure the individual was a ROSS'S
GOOSE, but wish we'd had a closer look. Otherwise:

Snow goose (5: 3 white juveniles, 1 white & 1 dark adult)
Canada goose (750+)
Bald eagle (imm.)
Northern harrier

 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

McCorkle Rd., Baneberry, Jefferson county
5-5:30 PM

Canada goose (200+)
Am. black duck (5)
Mallard (ca. 150)
Green-winged teal (25)
Great blue heron (14)
Bald eagle (adult)
Am. kestrel
Ring-billed gull (35)

And, 2 coyotes loping along the lakeshore.
