While conducting a Breeding Bird Survey route in Grainger County in east
Tennessee today (Sunday, June 22) two AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS were found on
the north side of Cherokee Lake along highway 375, about 8 miles from its
beginning at route 92 near Cherokee Dam. (look in the lake somewhere between
Greenlee Campground and Lake Forest Estates). They were in with a couple dozen
Canada Geese and a Great Egret.
I counted at least 5 GREAT EGRETs along the route. The most I have ever had
before at this time of year was one.
