Standifer Gap Marsh, Hamilton County, September 9, 2011, 10:00 A.M. A noisy half-dozen Titmice and Chickadees led me to a Whip-poor-will. It was perched lengthwise on a 3" limb, tight against the limb, about 20 feet high, and very hard to see. After about a minute if flew away with the small birds following. It was identified by dark color, goat-sucker bill, whiskers, shape and flight; too small for a Chuck-wills-widow and too plump for a Nighthawk; and I can't imagine either of these other two perched on a limb. It was on the loop trail in the woods beyond the end of the gravel road. David Patterson
