Observations on the first half of the banding period:

One Tennessee Warbler banded during the 2009 season was recaptured on the
Meadow this season. This constitutes the 15 return of TEWAs (birds banded
during one season and recaptured in subsequent years) on the Meadow. This #
of returns for a transient species is unprecedented, With the help of Scott
Rush, Eric Soehren and others, a paper on this phenomenon has been submitted
for publication.

Numbers of Blackburnian Warblers and Black-throated Green Warblers have been
much lower than in earlier years. This trend in disturbing since both of these
species are associated with hemlocks which have been decimated by the Hemlock
Wooly Adelgid

Cape-may Warbler numbers have been above average with 23 captures thus far. Two
Golden-winged Warblers have been captured this year which compares well with
previous years for this species that is often listed on conservation concern
lists.

Weather permitting, we will band through September 26. Thanks to my
hardworking team of volunteers which make this project possible.

David Vogt
