May 5- 6, 2011 Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co. TN The turn over at the "Pits" is still turning over. The Wilson's Phalarope have gone from 18, down to 12 yesterday to 4 today. The void has been filled by a new flush of White-rumped Sandpipers and some more really drab Stilt Sandpipers. Lesser Yellowlegs rule the roost and picking through the large bunches produced a large, long billed, gray toned Western Willet. Pectoral and Semipalmated Sandpipers are still few and scattered with good numbers of Least Sandpipers plus 13+ Spotted Sandpipers and numerous Solitary Sandpipers. Black-necked Stilts are still found in loose groups, squabbling, setting eggs and some still pairs mating. Dickcissel, Indigos and Blue Grosbeaks were everywhere with a few Bobolinks and Lincoln's Sparrows down in the vetch. Another Northern Waterthrush and a pair of Palm Warblers were having a " bopping" contest in the willow trees. More Song Sparrows were seen today, settling in for the nesting season. Again all the swallow species were present, a single Snowy Egret was on TVA Lake both days and a hen Red-breasted Merganser showed up today. No Black-bellied Whistlers found anywhere the last 2 days but quite a few pairs of Shovelers and tons of Blue-winged Teal. Good Birding!! Jeff R. Wilson / TLBA 6300 Memphis-Arlington Road Bartlett, TN 38135 http://www.pbase.com/ol_coot/ What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
