Had to go to Memphis for dental work today, did a little birding before and after. In Shelby County I had a quickie Western Kingbird at the impound lot in Frayser; the Ensley pits were pretty quiet. A dozen species of shorebirds there but relatively low numbers of all but Black-necked Stilts and Long-billed Dowitchers (29 of the later). Some of the nicer sights were single Short-billed Dowitcher and Dunlin, and two Semipalmated Sandpipers, all in alternate plumage. No sign of the whistling ducks at the pits or the TVA ponds. On the way home, at O'Neil lake in Hatchie NWR (Haywood County) one each alternate plumage Common and Forster's Terns perched cooperatively side-by-side.
