12/07/03 Reelfoot Lake Lake County Don Manning and I made an early trip to Airpark Inn at Reelfoot Lake for the Vermilion Flycatcher. We got there a little early, as we suspected. After it began to warm up, the Flycatcher dropped in at about 08:30, in the same fashion that it did with Jeff yesterday. A group of us enjoyed great looks at the rosy little guy, as it worked the area around the fence over. It was again working the northern section of the fence, up near the building by the runway. Luckily, the Loggerhead Shrike hadn't shown up to give the Vermilion a hard time when we moved on after enjoying the Vermilion for a good while. (Thanks again, Bud and Alice!!) Don and I had to leave mid-morning, and I'm sure more good birds were found, but other highlights were a big flock of Lapland Longspurs working the rice fields at Black Bayou, a group of Brewer's Blackbirds, and Red-tails galore. The chatter of overhead White-fronted Geese always seemed to be in the background. I'll let Jeff do his magic with the details. Good birding!!
