[TN-Bird] Tunica Co. MS / Lake Co. TN Gulls

As the Mississippi River tops out a 20 foot rise, just under 36 feet in  
Memphis, more gulls are showing up in the fields and the dump in Tunica Co. I  
spent some time in a howling wind Saturday looking for the Rough-legged  Hawk 
but 
had no luck in that department. I did find 4 adult Krider's and  one immature 
plus the all dark Harlan's and a immature rufous morph.
 
The rest of the morning was spent scanning 3 locations where thousands of  
gulls traded in and out. Of course 99% were Ring-billed but that occasional odd 
 
ball was worth the time. Two Lesser Black-backed immatures were found along 
with  1 first year Thayer's and a 2nd year California, 3 generations of 
California  Gulls have been seen at this location in the last 3 weeks. This is 
the 
year for  California Gulls, as they are being seen all across the east in line 
with all  the other western species found throughout the past year.
 
In Lake Co. TN, where the river is lapping close to the top of the levees,  I 
encounter huge numbers of gulls Sunday, resting in the fields, but few on the 
 lake. In one crowd of 3 thousand plus, were the now regular Lesser  
Black-backed Gulls (2+), another 1st year Thayer's and surprise, a 1st year  
California.
