The 27th Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival will be held Jan. 14-15 at the
Hiwassee Refuge and at the Birchwood Community Center (Hamilton and Meigs
counties). TWRA is excited to host the 2017 Tennessee Sandhill Crane Festival
in Birchwood on January 14-15 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.
TOS members: If you have a spotting scope and would like to volunteer on
Saturday, January 14 and/or Sunday, January 15 to be at the Hiwassee Wildlife
Refuge to help visitors learn about and get close-up looks at the Sandhill
Cranes and possibly Whooping Cranes, please notify the TWRA festival

interested, we'll need their name prior to the event. We'll have passes
printed for them, available for pick up at the school. If I don't have their
name prior to the event, there won't be a pass for them. "
I will have a scope or maybe two at the Cherokee Removal Memorial Park both of
those days. Students from Cleveland State Community College will keep a list of
the birds being seen at both sites, photograph the list from time-to-time, and
text the list to the festival headquarters at the former Birchwood School so
that visitors to the festival can know what is being seen and hopefully come
down to the HWR and CRMP to see cranes, eagles, ducks, and more. It would be
good to have an extra person or two to assist me at the CRMP.
