I was in upper east TN this afternoon, so I stopped by the weir dam to see if the Surf Scoter was still around. The bird was about 150m upstream of the weir dam. It was fairly tolerant of me standing on the bank taking photos from within 15m. It floated/swam by me a few times over 30 min. The bird was actively feeding, preening, and stretching. One of the wing flapping shots shows what I think is a small wound on the left wing. If interested, I have posted a series of shots here: http://www.pbase.com/shoeman/surf_scoter_1_nov_11 Good birding, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
