Greetings,
This afternoon/early evening I heard and saw my first Kentucky Warbler of the
season, at Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum in Belle Meade, in the Wooded
Sculpture Garden. The bird was on a low branch by the "Lady Hare" sculpture
near the creek bed, then was flushed upward by other people. I played a
recording of its song, and it vocally responded and then came right back toward
me.
Also on site were many Eastern Bluebirds (there are boxes present) and Carolina
Wrens, Pileated, Red bellied, Hairy, and Downy Woodpecker, Eastern Phoebe, a
White eyed Vireo, a Black and White Warbler, Kinglets, Yellow Rumped Warblers,
and a Wood Thrush.
Note: this site charges an admission fee for entry.
The other day at Hidden Lake park on McCrory Lane, there was a large flock of
noisy Goldfinch, a spee-ing Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, a Kestrel, many Tree
Swallows circling over the Harpeth River, and many Bluebirds and Field Sparrows
in the meadows.
In other news I am anxiously awaiting for the Chickadee and Carolina Wren pairs
making homes in my boxes to have successful nests; and happily surprised to see
an Eastern Towhee hopping around on my car most mornings as of late, at my home
across from Warner Park.
Happy Spring Birding to all,
Ashley
