I had my first flock of warblers at the Cravens House (Lookout Mountain, Hamilton Co.) on Sunday, July 23. It was composed of one female Cerulean Warbler, three American Redstarts, three Black-throated Green Warblers and a single Black and White Warbler. A Yellow-crowned Night Heron was present in a ditch on along Greenway Ave. (it is the road off of Brainerd Road that goes to the Brainerd Wal-Mart) on July 24. This location adjoins the Brainerd Levee and I always suspected it would be a good place to see the species, even though it had not been seen there before. While kayaking and fishing downriver from the Raccoon Mountain intake boat ramp on the Tennessee River in Marion County on July 24, I observed two Louisiana Waterthrushes on the bank. I assume they were migrants. I also found a juvenile Little Blue Heron in a slough, my first ever for Marion County.
