Wife Sylvia and I viewed the snowy owl near Spring Hill, TN (Maury County) today around 11 AM and again around 1 PM. For the first sighting, we easily located the owl by the cars parked at a convenient turnout to a Saturn gate, just a bit south of the intersection of US 31 and TN 396. The owl was on the west side of the road, on the ground in an open field, directly across from the Rappavilla mansion. It was approx. 500 yards off the road. After viewing for a spell, we visited a few local shops and returned shortly before 1. In the interim, someone walking across the ridge above spooked the owl, with the happy result that it flew closer to the road, this time maybe 250 yards out and a bit further south. On the return trip to Waynesboro, we tried Brace Road and South Brace Road near Ethridge (Lawrence County), but failed to find any cranes.
