Location: MS, Walls, Old Hwy 61 & Bass Landing Observation date: 4/22/07, Notes: Thanks to Jeff Wilson's directions(Old Hwy 61 and Basslanding Rd SE corner Cotton field) I found the Am Golden Plovers hunkered down staying out of the blowing wind behind the old cotton rows in the minimal grass between the rows. Horned Larks also flitting around chasing each other. Strong Southerley winds blowing dust from the working plows from the other fields. Number of species: 8 American Golden-Plover 22 Killdeer 9 Mourning Dove 12 Horned Lark 16 American Robin 4 European Starling 25 Red-winged Blackbird 9 Eastern Meadowlark 2 Location: MS, Walls, Hwy 61 N of Star Landing Observation date: 4/22/07 Notes: On the way back north into Tn I stopped by these wetlands just N of Starlanding Rd on Hwy 61. Good views of alot of nice birds. Last Sunday I stopped by here also. There were hundreds of Teal and Coots then and lots of G. Egrets. Number of species: 11 Canada Goose 8 Mallard 7 Blue-winged Teal 12 Northern Shoveler 16 Great Blue Heron 9 Great Egret 41 Snowy Egret 4 American Coot 100 Killdeer 17 Lesser Yellowlegs 20 Red-winged Blackbird 30 Location: MS, Walls, Hwy 61 N of Star Landing Observation date: 4/15/07 Notes: Stopped by on the way down to try to find some birds in nearby fields was suprised to see the wetlands and more surprised at the Egrets.
