[TN-Bird] Sightings Report 30&31 Aug 2007, Shelby County, Memphis, Ensley Bottoms Area

Sightings Report 30&31 Aug 2007, Shelby County, Memphis, Ensley Bottoms Area
Location:     TN 2 Mem, Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp

Observation date:     8/30/07

Notes:     Short trip to Riverport Rd ponds around 2pm.  Wood Stork was the
highlight of the day feeding on the slowly diminishing supply of small fish
in pond #2 which is drying up fast. Pictures can be viewed at
http://www.pbase.com/jwalko/ensley_bottoms__riverport_rd taken at about
300-400ft with the assist of a 22x spotting scope.

Turkey Vulture     1

Location:     TN 2 Mem, Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp

Observation date:     8/31/07

Notes:     Another short trip down to the bottoms area for lunch. 100+
Mallards dropped into pond #2 for a quick feed and rest. Water levels still
going down.

Location:     TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS

Observation date:     8/30/07

Notes:     Finished the afternoon off up on the levee at the TVA Lakes. Lg
Flock of resting DC Cormorants on the back mud flat and dredge pipe. 2 Adult
and 3 immature Caspian Terns also hanging out just as others had reported.

Location:     TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS

Observation date:     8/31/07

Notes:     Flock of DC Cormorants and the 5 Caspian Terns still hanging out
with a couple of Egrets on the TVA lake. Water is down they have been
dredging heavily this summer and trucking out the spoil.
