Sightings Report 29 & 31 Jan 2007 Ensley Bottoms area, Memphis, Shelby
County
Two days at lunch to check out whats happening in the bottoms. Dredging and
cold weather making the birds move around at the TVA ponds. Ducks are all
scattered in the Riverport Rd area.
Location: TN 2 Mem, Riverport Rd Ponds / Swamp
Observation date: 1/29/07,1130-1155am
Notes: Coldddd weather is here, ice is forming on the sloughs and ponds.
Numbers of birds are down and scattered since the water is up high levels
since the last several weeks of rain.

Hooded Merganser 10
Pied-billed Grebe 2
Great Blue Heron 1
Red-tailed Hawk 2
American Kestrel 1
Killdeer 1
Northern Flicker 1
Eastern Phoebe 2
Eastern Bluebird 2
Common Grackle 35
Location: TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS
Observation date: 1/29/07, 1155am-1210pm
Notes: Lg float of Lsr Scaup back on the big pond even with dredging
going on.. Gulls in thick packed together in the back left corner near the
dredging. Small pond starting to hold birds stirred up from the machinery.

Observation date: 1/31/07,150-210pm
Notes: With the dredging most of the birds must be down on McKeller
Lake. Float of birds is quite small and divided between the two ponds with
the small pond holding more ducks. Quite cold with storm coming in tonight.

Observation date: 1/31/07, 135-150pm
Notes: Ponds & Sloughs freezing around the edges and smaller pockets.
open areas being kept unfrozen by wind action. The Wood duck was a pleasant
surprise amongst the others.
