Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN
With the season rushing past and my visits to the pits now limited to just
the weekends, I chomped at the bits on Friday after the cold front finally
broke the hot spell. I could hardly wait to get to the pits. The northern
front
had cooled everything down but the shorebird movement and the pits were
crawling with birds. Two new species for the season were ferreted out of the
thousands. A single Semipalmated Plover and a breeding plumaged Stilt
Sandpiper
brought the season total to 13 species of Wind Birds and birds were dropping
in
all morning.
An immature Coopers Hawk kept the birds up and rushing about all morning. It
was great to see clouds of shorebirds again, knowing not what might be
found. With the birds still moving this AM, Sunday ought to be even
better................
Good Birding !!!
