May 2, 2007 Ensley Bottoms Shelby Co, TN Spent an hour, late this afternoon (3 to 4), checking to see if anything set down in the rain at the pits and I was pleasantly surprised. Another 20 species of Wind Birds but a slightly different mix. The quick list before a Peregrine caused all H to break loose included: 28 Semipalmated Plovers with photos taken of male and female head patterns, Killdeer, 32 Black-necked Stilts, a big increase in numbers over Saturday, Greater Yellowlegs, Lesser Yellowlegs, 35+ Solitary Sandpipers, 2 Willet flushed out of nowhere by Speedy Peregrine, 2 Spotted Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpipers increasing numbers along with smart looking Western Sandpipers, Least in good plumages and numbers but one less after the Peregrine snatched one out of the air with an acrobatic barrel roll move, 21 White-rumped Sandpiper, good number for this early in season, 1 Baird's Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpipers in numbers, 1 Dunlin, 4 Stilt Sandpipers 2 in pretty awesome barring and colors, single Long-billed and Short-billed Dowitchers sparring like two fencing masters, Wilson's Snipe down to 2 birds and 3 Wilson's Phalarope 2 brilliant hens and a scruffy first year male. Pretty fine assortment in less than an hour searching...there has to be something lurking............Mike and I had talked about a Ruff just the previous week and he dug one out, so now maybe............a stint or curlew;o) Good Birding !!!
