[TN-Bird] Shelby County Spring Migration Count

Twenty observers participated in the National Migratory Bird Day Count in
Shelby Co.
The day began with rain, but by 9:30, the weather became quite favorable.
SPECIES
Hooded Merganser 2 at Shelby Forest (nesting?)
Wild Turkey 17
N. Bobwhite 7
Yellow-crowned Night-Heron 1, Riverport Rd.
Osprey 1, Eagle Lake
Bald Eagle, an immature, also at Eagle L.
Black-necked Stilt, 42
SANDERLING 1, EARTH Complex
White-rumped Sandpiper 10, EARTH Complex
Dunlin 13 (all in breeding plumage), EARTH Complex
Stilt Sandpiper 45, EARTH Complex
Short-billed Dowitcher 4, EARTH Complex
Eurasian Collared-Dove 60, most at Ensley
Vireos, 5 species including a Blue-headed at Shelby Farms
Thrushes, a Veery but Gray-cheeked (1), Swainson's (9) and Wood (21) were low
Warblers, 18 species, fewer than usual
Blue-winged 1, later by 2 days than the previous spring departure date for
the county
Northern Parula 86
Cerulean 16
Redstart 45
Prothonotary 32
Swainson's 2
Painted Bunting 3, at both Ensley and Shelby Farms
Dickcissel 89
Bobolink 2, Millington area
The most notable miss: Hairy Woodpecker
