Be careful on those bobwhites. This morning, I heard the absolutely perfect pitch, sure-as-shooting bobwhite call. The only thing is that it was a talented mimic starling calling from the top of a hackberry tree. It was so perfect that had I been in the proper habitat in the field, I'd have called it for sure. Another starling was doing an absolutely glorious mynah. I think these may be migrating starlings as I haven't heard those imitations all summer. I did have a resident starling that liked to "phoebe" a good bit. It is really maddening to hear the song of a "good" bird only to find that the starling has its voice down pat. I had my first summer tanager in the yard this year, but I didn't count him until I saw him for fear the starlings had learned that song too!
