After driving to Murfreesboro to attend church services today, it was an
easy decision to try and find the Scissor-tailed Flycatchers on Route
231. At 12:45 p.m. the two of them were on the electric wires west of
the highway just south of Christmas Creek Bridge and in front of the
little red barn where Frank Fekel found them Saturday. They were smart
enough to be in the shade of two adjacent poles to escape the heat of
the mid-day sun when they were not flying straight up to catch insects.
One thrilled us by flying down and sitting on the top of the fence and
giving us a spectacular view. We add our thanks to Laura McCall for
alerting us to the location of these beautiful birds.
