Hi Birders,
A yellow bellied sapsucker appeared back in the holly tree outside my bedroom
window here in the Charlotte Park area of West Nashville near the old
Cleece's Ferry ramp on the Cumberland River in Davidson County. I don't know
if it
is the same bird or not, but he was sure working away on that holly just as the
one was that was here until a month or so ago. This guy is mighty bright and
beautiful. Looks as if he has his "courting clothes" on and is ready to go
for the girls!
The titmice, cardinals and wrens are taking shredded paper, hair clippings
and dryer lint from a flower pot outside, so It appears that some are using
those materials to "feather their nests." When I have my hair cut, I ask the
beautician to give me my "locks" which I put outside for the birds to use.
They
really seem to go for that. I was once told about that by an ornithologist who
said it "works as well as horse hair" which is used by many birds in rural
areas. The shredded paper and dryer lint were also "promoted" by the same
person.
Enjoy birding often,
Dee Thompson
