On Sunday, January 16th, Marilyn Burgess and I observed 3 Rusty Blackbirds together at the Duck River Unit of the TN NWR in Humphreys County (2 males, 1 female). A large flock of White Pelicans was offshore at the treatment plant. Also noted among a flock of Canada Geese was a large number of Greater White-fronted Geese, and containing several blue morph Snow Geese and 2 Ross's Geese. Also observed the same day at nearby Old Johnsonville State Historic Area in Humphreys County was a Greater Black-backed Gull, remaining aloof from a small group of ring-bills. This bird was seen 2 weeks ago at the same place and first thought to be a Lesser, but better looks and lighting this time showed the black bill mark and flesh-colored legs well. Considered "rare" in the NWR.
