Even though it is a bit chilly this morning with the temperature just below freezing, Willie apparently knows it is going to be a beautiful sunny day, so he showed up real early at 6:18 a.m. But after a couple of quick sips he did not come back to the feeder and we were puzzled until we saw a hawk shoot across the yard. We've had two immature hawks here lately - a Sharp-shinned and a Coopers in the the strangest morph I've ever seen. Almost as soon as the hawk left Willie reappeared for three quick drinks. He had a good day yesterday although he spent most of it in the cedar bush instead of on his sunny day perch. Insects were hatching in that bush again and he was busy packing away the protein. A couple of people came by to see him and others have asked about seeing him today and tomorrow. About thirty birders have visited so far and Willie has been seen by every one of them. We think he enjoys his "star" status.
