April 1, 2011 I drove to the Joachim Bible Refuge in Greene County after work today in hopes of getting a better look at the Rough-legged Hawk that I briefly saw last week. Today's sighting left no doubt in my mind as to the bird's identity. The hawk hovered for several minutes at close range - so close that I could see the feathers on its legs! Beautiful bird. I found the hawk at the same place I saw it last week - in the large, flat field in the refuge alongside South Mohawk Road between Bible's Chapel Road and Murray Bridge Road. Additionally I found (1) Red-tailed Hawk, (4) Eastern Bluebirds, (1) Northern Mockingbird, (1) Field Sparrow and (1) Eastern Meadowlark at the refuge. Did not have as good a luck with the owl; it was a no show for me.
