Walked about a mile and a half on the western section of the North Boundary Trail in Oak Ridge (Roane County) this afternoon, to the third bridge where the trail forks. Three Wood Ducks were in the water at the bridge, two White-eyed Vireos on opposite sides of the creek were having a conversation and a Northern Parula sang in a tree above my head and let me have a few brief looks. At the clear cut area shortly before the bridge, where power lines come through, I heard a Prairie Warbler singing from across the field. Summary of select species: 5 White-eyed Vireos 4 Red-eyed Vireos 3 Northern Parulas 2 Eastern Phoebes 1 Prairie Warbler 6+ Blue-gray Gnatcatchers 1 Red-tailed Hawk The entrance to this section of the North Boundary Trail is on The Turnpike (Rte 95) just before the Rte 58 split. There's not much of a parking lot but there's room for a few cars. Just make sure you don't block the gate.
