Bell's Bend Park Nashville-Davidson Co. TN 15 May 2010 Twelve birders joined the NTOS-sponsored Field Trip this morning at Bell's Bend Park in western Nashville-Davidson Co. The birding in the parking lot proved to be good start with a CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER, an ORCHARD ORIOLE as well as a GREEN HERON perched oddly on a nearby wire. Two HENSLOW'S SPARROWS cooperated very nicely from their usual spot just down the path from the Outdoor Center on the right. One perched in full view and sang repeatedly. The WILLOW FLYCATCHER was also present where it was last reported. It, too, sang for us to prove it was indeed a Willow. A pair of BLUE GROSBEAKS flitted about together for us and perched together several times, giving us great looks at both the male and female plumage. A NORTHERN BOBWHITE fed and walked along in full view by the barn calling out loudly from time to time. PRAIRIE WARBLERS and YELLOW-BREASTED CHATS were ubiquitous, often singing out in the open. After the trip wrapped up Tony Lance drove down to the nearby sod farm and saw several Cliff Swallows and a lone Blue-winged Teal in the pond. Thanks to all who participated.
