For the past two weeks, from 12 to 20 red-winged blackbirds have been feeding in my hackberry trees out back. I just heard them out there again. They must be feeding on the young hackberry shoots. In past years, I have had one male red-wing who would stay for a day or two and feed off the bird feeder. These red-wings do not come to the feeder or to my deck floor which serves as a ground feeder and is usually filled with doves, grackles, house finches and rock doves along with my still present junco and my white-throated sparrow who is singing up a storm.
