Just a few notes of birds seen while cycling in Rutherford county over the = last week. On Thursday (5th), I flushed a woodcock from a wet roadside = ditch while riding into a wicked headwind while half frozen (way colder = then I planned on). =20 On Saturday afternoon, in the miserable cold wind, I flushed 2 bobwhite = from the roadside by a house and they flew up onto the short mowed lawn = and ran around. Very odd place for bobwhite. In any event, I hear quail = in all kinds of small isolated patches of generally unmowed grass all over = Rutherford County. =20 With the cold and wind lately, I've heard no new migrants. Not even a = Red-eyed Vireo yet. Just plenty of Gnatcatchers. Cheers, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
