[TN-Bird] Rankin Bottoms Avocet

Gate Pond at Rankin Bottoms, Cocke County, Tenn. Wednesday evening, 5:30 - 
6:15 p.m., the American Avocet was still there, feeding and preening.  The 
stripes on its back and wings looked brown to me rather than black.  Does 
this mean it's an immature?  The photos of winter plumaged Avocets in the 
guides all seem to have have black stripes.  Or does the black just 
gradually fade to brown?
