Ensley Bottoms
Shelby Co. TN

A quick afternoon run around at the "Pits" found far fewer species and
numbers. A single BAIRD'S SANDPIPER was a good find and the single
White-rumped found yesterday was still present, also at least a dozen Wilson's
Phalarope but no Dowitchers. The numbers of Semipalmated Sandpipers jumped
considerably over night.

While watching an alert Lesser Yellowlegs pump its head, a Solitary teeter
and a Spotted bobbing, another tail bobber landed in with the other three,
a Northern Waterthrush!! Looked like a rumba contest.

The 6 Black-bellied Whistling Ducks are still present, 4 stay close
together (maybe a family group that has not broken up yet) while the other two
stay off to themselves. The Painted Bunting is still singing from the west
tree line at the pits.

A nice finish for the afternoon, while driving along on Riverport Road, a
dark bird sitting in the top of a tree in the Horn Lake Cutoff, too dark to
be a DC Cormorant and worth a U-turn, morphed into a male ANHINGA,
sporting a bright blue eye ring, waited long enough for me to get out the
camera............... I think Sumershoe had one circling over the Ensley area
sometime this weekend.

Good Birding!!

What is this feathered thing that lifts my heart to the heavens.
