Nothing is finalized until published in July but the AOU has updated its website with preliminary results from taxonomy changes under consideration. http://www.aou.org/committees/nacc/proposals/pending.php A few items of note (see link for more): Passed (as it stands): -- Snowy Plover split from Kentish Plover of Old World -- Common Gallinule (including Hawaiian form) split from Common Moorhen of Old World (Yay, new life bird) unclear yet what the new common name will be -- reshuffling of warbler taxonomy based on DNA studies. So long to the genus Dendroica which all now become Setophaga. Lots of scientific name changes here, see the link for more. Not clear where Yellow-breasted Chat will end up -- Split Bahama Warbler from Yellow-throated Warbler -- Split Mexican Jay (I think still only one species in US though) Failed (as it stands): -- resplit Yellow-rumped Warbler into 2, 3, or 4 species. Dang it. This may be revisited in the future after results from ongoing studies are published. I really wanted Myrtle and Audubon's Warblers back. -- resplit Mexican Duck from Mallard -- split Mountain Chickadee into 2 species -- re-rename the just-split winter wrens (still Winter Wren for us and Pacific Wren out west) Dean Edwards Knoxville, TN =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to SIGN YOUR MESSAGE with first and last name, CITY (TOWN) and state abbreviation.
