Henry Co (Paris Landing to Britton Ford)
I spent a quick couple of hours looking for waterbirds around KY Lake in Henry
Co on Sunday. I didn't spend any time at all working passerines, but a flyover
Pine Siskin at Paris Landing was a bit of a surprise.

Highlight on the day was 6 species of gulls. In addition to the hordes of
Ring-bills in the area, there were a number of Herrings, including several dark
juvenile birds. A few Bonaparte's are in, but not in any numbers in the area
yet. The other 3 gulls were a juvenile Lesser-Blacked Gull on the island at
Paris Landing, along with single 1st-winter Franklin's and Laughing Gulls. I
had been wondering when a Lesser Black-backed would show up, as they arrived in
late September last year. Otherwise, good numbers of Forster's Terns still
around at both Paris Landing and Eagle Creek.

Paris Landing also produced the 1st Loons of the season, but only 2 Commons.
Coots have taken over the area, but I couldn't ferret out any diving ducks from
the masses of Coots, dabblers, and Pied-billed Grebes. A quick trip to Port Rd
produced NOT A SINGLE BIRD, but this will change shortly. Shorebirds were few
and far between, with 8 Lesser Yellowlegs, 2 Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Dunlin, and
Killdeer at Eagle Creek. Britton Ford added a dozen Least Sandpipers, and that
wrapped them up. A single young Greater White-fronted Goose is at Britton Ford,
but nothing else of note.

Tree Swallows were seen working everywhere I went, but no other species could
be picked out. I didn't try for Warblers, but the only species I had besides
Yellow-rumps was Tennessee.

Pretty quiet overall, I should have been in Mississippi!

Good Birding!!
