1 December 2006 For those that have not been keeping up with the progress of the = Whooping Cranes being led to Florida by Operation Migration (OM), their website states that the northerly shift in the winds makes the flight to = Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge in Meigs Co. likely. Strong headwinds have kept them grounded in Cumberland Co. for a record 9 days. The OM crew has been = very accommodating over the years, and if they do fly tomorrow, they always = do a flyby so people can get good looks from the viewing platform, and will = have people on hand to answer questions. Keep in mind that nothing is = guaranteed, and conditions such as frost or fog may prevent them form flying. They = are way behind schedule this year, having flown only 14 out of the past 57 = days, so once they arrive they will likely take off again the next day. It is something to see, and well worth the trip out there.
