[TN-Bird] Northeast TN Birding - Request For Information

Greetings!

I could be possibly moving to the northeast TN (tri-cities) area and am
wondering what the birding is like there. I see there are several large bodies
of water in the area: South Holston Lake, Boone Lake as well as a few rivers.
Are these big draws for gulls, duck and geese?

I spent some time looking through a few field guides with respect to birds'
ranges and there seems to be a void centered around the NE TN area where many
species aren't found "regularly" enough to be included as part of the range
maps. I can only speculate that the topography may have some impact in this
observation.

In so, what benefits does high altitude birding have (besides a good cardio
workout). Are there good birds endemic to the mountain ranges. I understand
that the Dark-eyed Junco is a year round resident.

Again, looking for any information (general or specific) about birding near
Church Hill, Kingsport, Bristol, Johnson City or anywhere in between or
surrounding area. I have been monitoring the eBird Map and have not seen a
balloon report from this area. I figure this could be for several reasons.
Possibly the birders in the area don't report to eBird, and if they do, there
possibly aren't "rare/casual, etc." birds being observed / reported.

Currently, I live in Southeast Missouri - the heart of the Mississippi Flyway
and wondering if I'll starve for species there in northeast TN?

Any and all information would be greatly appreciated!

Feel free to contact me directly off list unless you have information that
might benefit the group. Thank you in advance!

Good Birding!
