This Saturday, 20 June 2020, the John W Sellars Chapter TOS will be joined
by members of the Nashville Chapter TOS for a tour of the Native Plant &
Butterfly Garden at Cedars of Lebanon State Park followed by nightjar and
owl hunting.
A tour of the Native Plant & Butterfly Garden led by Tennessee Extension
Master Gardener Linda Robertson begins at 6:00 PM. Linda established and
continues to maintain the garden, and will share her knowledge of the
plants and animals that call this magnificent garden home. Everyone is
invited. To participate, meet at the Dixon L. Merritt Nature Center at 6:00
PM and bring a mask.
Next, we venture off into the forest and glades of Cedars of Lebanon State
Park in search of nightjars and owls. To join us on the birding expedition,
be at the Nature Center by 7:00 PM.
Expect to hear Chuck-will’s-widow, Eastern Whippoorwill, and Common
Nighthawk. If we’re lucky, we might also hear Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl,
and Eastern Screech Owl.
Bring a comfortable chair, water and a snack if you wish. Mosquito
repellent might also come in handy. We will be out until 10:00 PM.
