Oct 8 2004 In Bedford County (Normandy), we still have a pretty vocal Summer Tanager doing it's "pitti-chuck" and another type of call this evening. In Coffee Co (Tullahoma High School Football Field), we had several nighthawks calling and flying about, too. A pair of Wood Ducks have been spied several times by what we refer to as "the low-water bridge" on Bugscuffle Rd (Bedford Co- Bugscuffle, TN- honest!). This creek (Garrison Fork) is at a "summer-time" low right now. We need rain. We have a Belted Kingfisher on a part of Bugscuffle Rd (not very close to any water) that is adjacent to fields and a few houses lately. Interesting spot for a kingfisher...ponds are somewhat nearby but it appears a lot of energy may be used to fly to the pond when it could just perch on the branches over the pond, etc. In late summer, we had several sightings of the Great Egret on Alex's pond near Cascade High School (Hwy 269- Bedford Co) but they have not been noted in a while. On a sadder note, our field we see Blue Grosbeaks, Bobwhites, and unusual sparrows in the Spring (Bill Russell Rd- Bedford Co) is soon to be houses, we fear.
