This afternoon there were over 300 ducks in a raft at Cove Lake State Park, Campbell County, TN.seen well from the end of the fishing dock looking West. I was quite surprised. I usually only see a raft like this about every other year around mid to late November when we have a first inclement weather incident of snow and ice. It was quite a treat to see this many ducks in Campbell County! Cove Lake is definitely a location where good birds come and go quickly, most likely a resting place of short duration.. My count was 228+ REDHEADS..a high number for the park for me 9 CANVASBACKS 77 + RING NECK DUCKS 2 American Widgeon 62 Gadwall 29 Hooded Mergansers 3 Bufflehead 1 Pied Billed Grebe 1 Bonaparte's Gull 12 RIng Billed Gulls A Red Breasted Nuthatch was heard Canada Geese are pairing up and 2 pair of Red Shoulder Hawks were calling incessantly.
