The Nashville CBC was held on Dec. 17 by 32 field observers and 2 feeder
watchers, and totaled 82 species, right on average for us. There were
also 3 Count Week birds, Wild Turkey at Warner Park, 3 adult Bald Eagles
at Hidden Lakes, and an immature male Baltimore Oriole (2nd time for
count) coming to a water dish in a Bellevue yard. Uncommon for the
count were 4 Sandhill Cranes flying over Bell's Bend, 1 Merlin at Warner
Park (2nd time for count), a first ever Mute Swan at Bell's Bend, and a
first ever Eurasian Collared-Dove in West Meade Radnor Lake was a
bonanza for waterfowl, with 622 individuals of 12 species, including 190
Gadwall and 7 Northern Pintail, a duck not often seen there. A Carolina
Chickadee total of 460 was a high count ever for this CBC circle.
Canada Goose, Gadwall, Great Blue Heron, Carolina Wren, Eastern
Bluebird, and Hermit Thrush all had second highest counts ever.
Thank you so much to all who participated.
