Shelby Park and Phase 3 of the Bottoms
Davidson Co.
Fifteen birders turned out for our annual Fall Flock field trip to Shelby
Park and Bottoms this morning and tallied 49 species. We enjoyed wonderful
weather and some great birds, but a fewer than expected number of warblers for
this time of year. An abundance of Gray Catbirds and Brown Thrashers, and a
first of season Ruby-crowned Kinglet made up for the deficit of warblers. In
Phase 3 of the Bottoms we walked to and over the new, impressive pedestrian
bridge over the Cumberland River and found Pectoral and Least sandpipers and
Killdeer at the new shorebird pond next to the bridge.
