Folks,
This reminds me of an event at Hiwassee yesterday. I did NOT see
this, but Polly Rooker, who we had the distinct pleasure of
accompanying in the field told Tracey and I about this as we were
leaving Hiwassee.
She saw a Sandhill Crane pick up a small mammal. Immediately the
bird was set upon by several others. There was much pecking and
moving about and Polly lost track of where the mammal was. After a
couple minutes, she assumed it had been consumed, when all of a
sudden she saw a bird with it, then proceed to eat it.
I hope Polly sees this - maybe it will encourage her to give the full
story, which I likely have butchered here, giving it from memory!
