5/10/11 McKenzie area (Henry and Carroll Co) I spent a few hours this morning finally getting out to my local route. Still some damaged roads and bridges from last years floods, as well as recent damage. Not a lot of migrant activity, especially with warblers. TN were very vocal, but otherwise only singles of Nashville, Cape May, Blackpoll, and Palm. Most of the locally breeding warblers were well-represented, including Swainsonâ??s in one of my regular locations in extreme NW Carroll Co. Flycatchers were well represented with a Least, a calling Yellow-bellied, and a teed-up Olive-sided. Other highlights were a good day locally with Lark Sparrows in 3 locations. 2 of these were in my most reliable locations the last few years, with pairs only a few miles apart in extreme SE Henry and NW Carroll Co. I also had a lone bird flying out over a corn field just outside of McKenzie in Carroll Co along Hwy 436. A few Bobolinks in the wheat fields were nice as well. Heard several Yellow-billed Cuckoos, a good sign. Iâ??ve added a few photos from today to my spring 2011 gallery. Most of these are marginal, including severely backlit Olive-sided Flycatcher and some fairly distant warbler shots (including Swainsonâ??s), as well as a couple of different Lark Sparrows and a nice study of Grasshopper Sparrows actually feeding close at hand (this not something Iâ??ve seen often, only 15-20 feet from the car). Anyway, the first new photo is here:http://www.pbase.com/mctodd/image/134603662 Good Birding!
