Saturday, January 19 at around 4 p.m. I observed a ring-billed gull with orange patagial tags at The Cove at Concord Park in west Knox County, Tennessee (Knoxville). The bands consisted of circles joined by a straight bar. Since the bands were a different shape than the yellow tags I reported on a ring bill in Clinton at the Eagle Bend Fish Hatchery on December 21 (rectangular and larger), I sent this information to Thomas Seamans in Ohio and received this response: Thank you for your second report and your comment on the different shaped patagial tag. We only used rounded or "dumb bell" shaped tags. So, the rectangular tag that you saw was not ours. Someone else reported seeing bright blue tags and I received a photo of a red tagged bird. I am beginning to wonder if someone else marked gulls but did not get permission from the banding office to do so. Thank you again for your reports! Tom Thomas W.
