I would also like to express my sense of loss upon hearing of Steve's
passing. I didn't get to bird with Steve & Rebecca as much as many of you,
but have nothing but fond memories from the occasions that I did. TN has
lost a very kind and giving member of its birding community. I especially
remember my trip to Knoxville for the Sage Thrasher, when the Satterfield's
invited me to ride to the location with them, making the successful trip all
the more enjoyable. As Jeff said, my heart also goes out to Rebecca for her
loss, and I know she is in all of our thoughts. The photo Jeff posted is a
fine portrait of Steve & Rebecca, out in the field enjoying the birds we
love.
I am really glad that the Satterfield's had the pleasure of hosting a
Townsend's Solitaire in their yard this winter, great yard bird for a great
couple. Don Manning had found a Clay-colored Sparrow right down from his
house only days before he passed away back in 2006, which he was very happy
about that last time I talked to him before his heart attack.
