Late Saturday afternoon, 6/5/2021, I was driving east on TN 52 in Morgan
County near Rugby. As I crossed the bridge over Little Creek, I saw a large
corvid which I quickly IDed as a raven fly across the road. I immediately
stopped, grabbed my binoculars, and walked out onto the bridge. For the
next 15 minutes or so I watched a group of at least 4, and possibly 5,
ravens flying about and perching in trees in the wooded creek valley a few
hundred yards north of TN 52. At one point there were 3 perched high in a
dead tree and another bird perched in a different, nearby dead tree. One
bird appeared to be begging for food from another bird, although because of
the distance I could not tell whether it got any food. Because of the
distance, and not having my scope with me, I could not discern any obvious
plumage differences that may have distinguished fledgling ravens.

There are several raven records in recent years in southeastern Morgan
County in the Frozen Head area, but none that I can find from northern
Morgan County or nearby portions of Scott and Fentress Counties. The
location of my observation is within a mile of the Big South Fork NRRA, for
which there appear to be no raven records. And the likelihood of my birds
being a family group is also intriguing. I posted an audio recording
(converted from a phone video), in which multiple birds can be heard
calling, on eBird at https://ebird.org/checklist/S89897076.
