A low of 18F in the hollow in western Lewis County this morning
(4/7/07). The dawn was greeted by a silence worthy of mid-January.
All plant life seems to have suffered heavy freeze damage, including
the natives. There may be no fruit crop at all this year. The oak
and hickory blossoms are at a critical, fragile stage now too. Trees
already weak from two years of drought stress will now be further
taxed by the loss of much of their investment in their spring
leafout. Two more nights of this expected. The extent of the damage
will become clearer in coming days.

This makes two years in a row with widespread weather disasters on
April 7th.
